| dc.description | The research "Ghost fishing and its impact on the marine ecosystems of San Mateo, Jaramijó and Crucita", had the general objective of evaluating the impact of ghost fishing on the marine ecosystems of San Mateo, Jaramijó, and Crucita. 150 surveys were applied to artisanal fishermen in the fishing coves to identify the fishing gear and their characteristics. Two databases were consulted: (1) active vessels and fishing gear; (2) number of longline hooks and hooks lost. In order to estimate the similarity between fishing gear and vessels of the three study sites, linear association techniques (Linear Regression), multivariate proximity analysis (NMDS) and multivariate tests such as ANOSIM and PERMANOVA were applied. The most used fishing gear is the longline (58%), followed by the bottom gillnet (9%). Regarding the characteristics of the manufacturing materials of artisanal fishing boats, the study found that the artisanal fishing fleet of Crucita, Jaramijó and San Mateo is mainly composed of fiberglass boats (94%), wood (2%) with the following average dimensions: average length of 8.24 m; beam 1.94 m; depth 0.98 m. Loss of fishing gear, fishermen can lose up to a maximum of 2 cloths of net and between 0 to 11 hooks per fishing operation respectively. Gillnets can have a mortality of 5,305,560 individuals after 12 months; while it is estimated that the trammel could reach a total of 99,324 individuals by the third month. | dc.description.abstract | La investigación “Pesca fantasma y su impacto en los ecosistemas marinos de San Mateo, Jaramijó y Crucita”, tuvo como objetivo general evaluar el impacto de la pesca fantasma en los ecosistemas marinos de San Mateo, Jaramijó, y Crucita. Se aplicaron 150 encuestas a pescadores artesanales de las caletas pesqueras para identificar los artes de pesca y sus características, se consultaron dos bases de datos: (1) embarcaciones activas y artes de pesca; (2) número de anzuelos de palangre y anzuelos perdidos. Con el propósito de estimar la similitud entre artes de pesca y embarcaciones de los tres sitios de estudio, se aplicaron técnicas de asociación lineal (Regresión lineal), análisis multivariados de proximidad (NMDS) y pruebas multivariadas como ANOSIM y PERMANOVA. El arte de pesca más utilizado es el palangre (58%), seguido de la red de enmalle de fondo (9%). En lo que respecta a las características de los materiales de fabricación de los botes pesca artesanal, en el estudio se pudo determinar que la flota pesquera artesanal de Crucita, Jaramijó y San Mateo está compuesta principalmente por botes de fibra de vidrio (94%), madera (2%) con las siguientes dimensiones promedio: eslora promedio de 8.24 m; manga 1.94 m; puntal 0.98 m. Las pérdidas de artes de pesca, los pescadores pueden perder hasta un máximo de 2 paños de red y entre 0 a 11 anzuelos por faena de pesca respectivamente. Las redes de enmalle pueden alcanzar a tener una mortalidad de 5.305.560 individuos al cabo de 12 meses; mientras se estima que el trasmallo podría alcanzar al tercer mes un total de 99.324 individuos.
